The air is crisp, the air is cool,
But Mother Nature likes to fool
Us all with weather unexpected:
Either snow or heat waves are projected!
The forecast calls for heat or chill,
The uncertainty's what makes me ill!

She's a tricky one
That's for sure
And for her games
There is no cure.
Hot one moment
and cold the next
What tomorrow will bring
is anyone's guess! :D

the* s* words, the *f* words,
to a gardener's soul-so bleak.
beenies who utter them
deserve duck-taped keyboards
for at least week.

Follie For Fall....

O give me golden days sublime
and autumn skies so blue
A splendid walk
through sunlit leaves
and fireside chats with you.

Grandmother's quilt of patch and down
will keep the chill away,
while apple cider warms the soul
with memories of yesterday.

And as the evening starry skies
are turned a rosy hue
we'll wake with autumn's delicate frost
that was once the summer's dew.

Can't blame the cat for that one.
The following is based on a true story.

A spider brought in on a flower,
Found his way to the masterbath shower.
He clung to the tile
with a lecherous smile,
And thought, "'Tis my finest hour!"

This spider of moderate size,
Had grown fat on a diet of flies.
I gave him wide berth,
and gasped, "How on earth,
did he get in?!", I tried to surmise.

So I started my morning ablution,
and arrived at a faulty conclusion.
If I just let him be,
He'll not bother me.
And showered with this resolution.

So I blissfully shampooed my hair.
When I looked up, he wasn't there.
He'd dropped out of sight,
and gave me a fright,
And my scream really shattered the air.

His diet of flies made him gain
too much weight; on his web, too much strain.
His stickum let loose,
And he fell in the sluice
of suds and he slipped down the drain.

My husband, who knows I'm a screecher,
Said, "Dear, NOW what kind of creature?
It just really seems
your banshee-like screams
Give you such an unladylike feature!"

I replied with a bit of a scowl,
"Arachnids just make me howl!"
Then I told him to stuff it,
Just call me Miss Muffet
And gave him a snap with my towel.

The Limerick is poetry's spawn
In the morning the laughter goes on
The one re: the spider
(You can't really chide her)
Makes us all glad it is Dawn!

Saying Goodbye

The days are shorter
The air is brisk
To prolong the summer
Is my wish

I am not ready
For icy morns
And frosty windows
And candy corn

I love the Fall
The crunch of leaves
The changing landscape
The chilling breeze

Bundled up
Before the fire
Reading books
Is my desire

But still I yearn
For days soon gone
Of bright and sunny
Early dawns.

The warming rays
Upon my arms
The feel of grass
The bees that charm

The feel of soil
In my hands
Catching a scent
Of beach and sand

All these things
Fill my soul
Expand my heart
Help me grow

But already
I can feel
That Autumn breeze
Bringing a chill

And so I bid
A sad farewell
To days of Summer
I love so well.

Haiku

The days are shorter
Celestial Equinox
Faintly chills the air

Bowing and scraping
obeisance to the fall winds
all the leaves tremble

wind pushes branches
leaves dance to the ground
closing the circle

Autumn arrives with wind and rain,
I snip, cut, gather and not in vain.

To save a piece of summers color,
I spy white flies, it is no other.

Much disgust, I silently mutter,
I'm glad on humans they do not cluster

Autumnly Ode

Let’s cast a spell upon the air
A silent wish for you out there
May autumn fill you with delight
When equal days and equal nights
Bring special magic all around
To us who love the living ground
Enchantment time, no chilly shocks
Can break the spell of equinox!

Mabon

The day hangs in balance
With the night.
A chill in the air, cleaner than the month before,
Refreshing in its sting.

No swarms of hornets and yellow jackets,
angrily rising up from beneath my feet,
But more screams from the bathroom when the unlucky husband finds a spider,
come in from the cold.

Memories of days long past,
Of walking through crisp leaves and breaking the thin ice floating above small puddles,
Is now reflected as I watch children echo the actions of a child so far away,
 and yet so close.

Autumn Amplified

Today didn't suggest
Cold weather from the West,
Anticipated Autumn days.

In warmth, I shed sweater,
On golf course, I'd better,
Driving back cold weather at bay.

Seeing soybeans gleam,
Turning gold 'neth machine,
Not quite ready for their trays.

Late Clematis in bloom,
Asters, mums and then soon,
Echoes of fall in earth's full array.

Autumn Fally

Blue is the up
Brown is the down
Spectrum generating
Colour all around

Starburst beginning
Stark the ending's found
Autumn's circle turns
Around around around

And soon you'll see
The morning frost
Crunching ground
As summer's lost

The snow will fall
A white giant wave
And you'll be able
To build your cave!
:)

Bundled up,
near the fires glow,
ponderings of summer
Where did it all go?

Thoughts of things accomplished
and many yet to do,
we will long look forward
to a sunny day in June

Posted by Sheebee in reply to Tina

We'll go out and look
At the bare and brown ground
Searching and staring
Around and around.

And when we do spy
A bit of the green
We'll run to the 'bo
With a cheer and a scream!
:D

Monsters in the Garden

Unsuspecting, into the vegie garden I strolled.
The last six years, into security having been lulled,
indeed, all that time, not a one had been seen,
Oh, horrid creatures clothed all in green!
But today, all of a sudden, my heart skips a beat,
they're clinging there with nasty multi-toed feet,
eating and laughing with a greedy chortle.
My, but they thought they were immortal.
But if my poor plants I were to save,
I must reach deep down and be brave!
So with handy clippers, I cut through like butter!!
Ewwwwwwww, gross....the thought makes me shudder!!
There they hang with slimy green guts dripping,
but now the nasty tomato worm feet aren't gripping!
I faced these monsters, and maybe I won,
but my sanity is totally undone!
*Shudder*

Be Gentle, Autumn

Felt in the stronger, colder breeze
Seen in the gold and crimson leaves
Watched as the daylight turns to paler shades
In the fields, in the marshes and rocky glades

Nights grow colder, pyjamas are flannel
As new shows pop up on our tv channels
Warmer coats and closed toed shoes
Are worn now, as we choose darker hues

Bulbs are planted to greet next spring
Before being locked fast in wintercling
Blossoms still blooming on stems less supple
As other flowering stops, branches in stubble

Leaves darken and tumble from trees now quite dry
Birds flock and feed more, soon to rise in the sky
Fish mate and migrate from lakes, rivers and streams
To the ocean, their progeny fisherfolk's dreams

The harvest of root crops: squash and potatoes
Corn and some lettuce, late kale and tomatoes
Enrich our choices for plate and decor
Berries and fruits finished, their picking is o'er

Late summer's last calls to the fields and the beach
We've heeded and hurried, to enjoy in the breach
May autumn be gentle in her colored, crisp days
And buffer the promise of winter's harsher ways
