Millennium Moon Is Shining Bright......

Through the windows, in it streams
Bathing all in glorious light
Inviting sleep, with golden dreams

Upon the dark and starry night
Wind moving gently on the branch
A wish hangs high; soon to take flight
Through shadows it will dance

In this fair season, goodwill toward all
Is such an ephemeral thing
For through the world, there is a pall
Hate and violence ring

Words of harmony and ease
May bring a cheerful thought
But hate and danger, in days as these
Too often are what's wrought

Perhaps it's not too late to think
Or, better, to believe
In each other, that we may be in synch
Noble purpose, to achieve

Upon the dawning of a century
This slate, so clean and new
Can we create some sanity
A new and different view?

To believe in hope and charity
To be tolerant and good
To govern more in parity
Can we hope for brotherhood?

New moons make all things possible
Transcending time and space
Our human condition's malleable
Through different in religion or race

This wish is spoken to the wind
Made holy by the moon
Let understanding and peace begin
It cannot come too soon

For through the ages we have spoken
Through the wind, the moon, the stars
Or to our God, or nature; tokens
How insignificant we feel we are

But we are tethered, skin and bone
To others; women and men
And each of us, together or alone
Is not less or more than them

Oh bright moon, stars, sun and deities
Oh all that's real and true
Oh hopes and prayers, oh humanity
Oh the many and the few...

Last full moon of the millennium
Above all shining bright and new
Swing high, swing high this pendulum
Swing peace....and make it true!

Clocks tick and the hands move
Strike the bells and cheer
Silvery fireworks sparkle and boom
As we welcome another year.

A brand new century comes along
Shiney, new and bright
Filled with hope of things to come
To which we set our sight.

Disasters averted and doomsayers crawl
And hide in their little doom-dens
Thinking of new ways to make it all
Come to a resounding doom-end.

The hope is too strong and the need is too bright
To have all crashing around
It's smiles you'll see come this new years day
And cheers will definitely abound!

Pre-millennium

Here we are in “ninety nine”
And it’s almost summertime
What treats there are in store for us
Solar eclipse - Nostradumus?

In years to come we’ll reminisce
About the “hoo haa” of all this
That’s if we live to see that day
And joke about the Y2K!

Chris - 30 May 1999

From earlier times of primitive things
Through Medieval days of Knights and Kings
And ships that sailed on oceans of promise
To Renaissance genius of wordly knowledge

From pilgrims of simpler, harsher days
And pioneers of agriculture, industry, and trade
Through times of war and years of peace
A milestone of civilization is reached

Connected to those once deemed to be ancient
We share this millenium both history and fate
And now we stand on millenia's edge
How humbling it is, for we are the bridge

Together, united, may we reach across
Bringing the lessons history has taught
Entering this age secure in our faith
In ourselves, in each other, undivided by hate

And may all those who follow look back with awe
at we who were here at millenium's dawn
May our legacy be honor, valour, and truth
and all nations united, true peace on earth.
